Through expert interviews, practical guides, independent insights, educational resources, rich business profiles and trusted local information, we're creating more than a directory. We're building a trusted source of knowledge that helps people make better decisions.

But perhaps the biggest difference is this.

Not every business will make the cut.

My Local Hero isn't a directory where anyone can pay to appear.

Every business will go through our verification process and be assessed against our trust standards before they're featured.

And we're not here to tell people who to choose.

We're here to give people the knowledge, context and clarity to make that decision for themselves.

It should come from understanding the problem, recognising quality and knowing what to look for.

Choosing the right business shouldn't come down to guesswork, clever marketing or whoever appears first in a search result.

We don't believe confidence comes from seeing more information.

We believe it comes from understanding it.

Why I Started My Local Hero

Like many people, I learned the hard way how difficult it can be to choose the right tradie.

After being burned myself, I realised the biggest problem wasn't finding a tradie—it was not knowing what I didn't know.

When you're dealing with a problem at home, you're often relying on someone else's knowledge and expertise. If you don't understand the problem, don't know what questions to ask, or don't know what a fair price looks like, you're in a vulnerable position.

Unfortunately, that's when costly mistakes happen.

Over the years, I've spoken to countless people who've had similar experiences. Many felt pressured into making quick decisions. Others paid for unnecessary work or chose the wrong person simply because they didn't have enough information to know any better.

Too often, the people most at risk are those who are vulnerable, including older Australians, women living alone, and anyone who simply doesn't have the knowledge or experience to know when something isn't right.

That shouldn't be normal.

My Local Hero started with a simple idea: if we can help people know what they don't know before they hire, they'll make better decisions.

If people understand more, ask better questions and make more informed choices, we can help reduce the stress, uncertainty and costly mistakes that too often come with hiring someone to work on your home.

That's the future I'm working towards.

That's why we're building My Local Hero transparently, listening to homeowners, tradies and industry professionals throughout development, and focusing on helping people understand more rather than simply showing them more information.

My Local Hero is being built as a free resource for homeowners and anyone looking to hire a local home service business.

Our goal is to make it easier for people to make informed decisions before they hire, without creating another subscription or paywall.

Homeowners will always be able to use My Local Hero for free.

For local businesses, there will be a free Verified listing that allows qualifying businesses to be part of the platform.

We'll also offer paid participation options for businesses that want additional features, more visibility and tools as the platform grows.

Our goal is to create genuine value for both homeowners and great local businesses, so the platform succeeds by helping people make better decisions—not by selling leads.

We're currently preparing to welcome our Founding Heroes.

To ensure we build the platform with quality rather than quantity, we'll initially be inviting just 30 founding businesses across all trades—with only five Founding Heroes per trade.
